City Asks Developer to Improve Kali Asin Embankment

Jakarta Provincial Government asks the improvement of Kali Asin embankment in Muara Angke, North Jakarta to be worked immediately. City Government asks the responsibility from Greenbay Pluit developer to handle the improvement.

"We have asked the Greenbay Pluit developer to install the pump and patch leak at Kali Asin embankment," said Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama at City Hall, Monday (1/26).
The improvement must be done since rainy season steps to its peak.

Basuki continued, his side has also started the embankment improvement project at Jakarta coastal area or NCICD (National Capital Integrated Coastal Development) Phase A.
"All pumps in pumphouse are also ready to be operated including the new pump installation at Sentiong, Sunter, and Marina Ancol," he continued.
He also argued that the slow response of flood handling in capital is not affected by the lack of coordination between City Government and Central Government.
"The flood problem in capital can be resolved if the illegal building alongside the riverbank is demolished. This is the main problem that we have," he said.
Water Management Head of Jakarta Public Works, Agus Priyono added, his side budgeted the NCICD Phase A Rp 3.9 trillion for the embankment improvement as long as 9.8 km.
"The developer must improve the embankment of 7.5 km long by Rp 2.92 trillion," he said.
He added, Public Works Department allocated budget for flood handling and water management into 3 parts; the west streams Rp 43 trillion, middle flows of Rp 34 trillion, and Rp 41 trillion for the east flows.
"But, we admitted the flood problem cannot be done in 5 or 10 years due to the illegal settlements alongside the riverbank. For that, we have asked Menkopolhukam (coordinating political, legal and security affairs minister) to help the relocation process," he uttered.
